And the school as ethernet so it can stay permanantly connected. Argh. This means I need to stop spending so much money on things like addictive rpgs and CDs and stuff and get me a computer since I don't really know how I'm going to make it through the summer without one. And I don't know jack about PCs or Apples; I just know one is more expensive that the other. Oh,well.--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Replying to Original Article:Article: I'm actually (as much as a absolutely LOVE Apple computers) going to recommend a PC for ya... in my experience, college networks do NOT like Apple modems for dialup. Or, if you do get an apple, if you managed somehow to get a Power Mac G3, MAKE SURE you get the internal modem, not the external USB one... my mom has it, it's a piece o' crap. Then again, it's kind of a beautiful thing that, unlike the huge mess of the PC world, there's only one bit of necessary advice when getting a mac But... since you probably like cheap things, only need internet mostly, and don't want to deal with Mac-hating university dial-up accounts, (or are you not doing dial up?) get yourself a cheap-ass pc. like... $500 or something. I dunno... *sigh*--- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- --- Replying to Original Article:Article: Though I don't have a PC cluttering up my desk even further, I do have access to a computer. Time, however, is something I don't have (usually, though today somehow has presented my with an abundance of it, hence me sitting on my bottom and posting entirely too much). What concerns me greatly is the fact I do not have a computer and won't have one downstairs like I do currently, so I won't be able to check my email every day, which has been a rather compulsive habbit recently. I'm debating whether or not I want to go the cheap way (and less useful) with buying a computer and get a PC or spend a lot more money and go all out and buy an Apple. You see, I'm a graphic design major and a lot of what I'll be doing jr and sr year especially will be on the computer and Apple is the industry standard so I would be wise to invest in an Apple. However the art department does have a fully-equipted Apple lab with all the hardware and software I need, the only problem is there are 500 communication design majors in my class and whenever deadlines come up the lab is really full. Other than doing artwork on it, though, I just need a computer that can access the internet with relative ease and occasionally do word processing, in other words a cheap ass PC. And the teachers in my department offer no useful advice. The advantages of going with a PC is that I can save up enough to get pretty well hooked up maybe two paychecks after this next one and therefore have one for the summer(this next paycheck goes to paying back the last bit of money I owe my mom for my car's breaking hobby, and actually a little will have to buy textbooks for summer school, but that won't be too bad).
